I started taking French lessons at the French Embassy just 8 weeks ago, with simple aims to check off a long standing item on my bucket list, as well as lay a foundation to one day move to Paris. However, the language as a whole has a much deeper meaning as I walk into these doors tonight. As we all learned on Friday, tragedy transcends any language or culture. Yet so do acts of kindness, resilience and the power to endure to see good prevail over evil. While I am not French, nor am I able to still find the words to say (be it in English or French), I can tell you my love for the language, French culture and my drive to make my ambition to be a part of Paris for one part of my life, is now that much more bold, grandiose and defiant. From the little I do know through having a few close French and Parisian friends, all those adjectives, reactions and emotions are all at the core of what makes France the nation it is today and what it has stood for over the centuries. I believe it’s something we all can all comprehend and feel emboldened by to press forward.
En francais: nous sommes tous des français en ce moment et tous debout pour la liberté , l'égalité et la fraternité.
To those who stand in the way of all these ideals: Vas te faire encule
